Our district and campus personnel engage in medical emergency response team drills throughout the academic year to equip them with the skills needed for an effective response to medical emergencies. Earlier this week, the Mercedes ISD Medical Emergency Response Team conducted a comprehensive drill at the Mercedes Early College Academy. This simulation provided a valuable opportunity for staff to review and evaluate response procedures in the context of emergency scenarios. This ongoing commitment to preparedness ensures a prompt and coordinated response when faced with critical situations. The drill, overseen by District Nurse Veronica Bustamante, RN, had the participation of MECA Principal Ramon Mejia, MECA nurse Judy Hernandez, LVN, Department of Safe Schools staff, and included a teacher and student. GEAR UP students from Mercedes High School and Mercedes Early Collège Academy had the opportunity to attend TSTC's Discovery Day, where they learned about the diverse technical education programs offered by the college and engaged in hands-on experiences. 🛠️🩺🖥📚 Discovery Day is a great resource to help our students find the path that will help them secure the education and training needed for their future careers. 🌟🎓

Mercedes Mighty Tiger musicians traveled to Harlingen today to participate in an all-day rehearsal for the Region 28 TMEA All-Region Orchestra Clinic and Concert. 🎻🎹🌟 Tomorrow will include another five hours of rehearsal and then the students will take the stage for their much-anticipated concert. The concert will begin at 5 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2 at the Harlingen Performing Arts Center.

GEAR UP will be in the Mercedes High School Go Center on Wednesday, November 29 at 5:30 p.m. to assist in the process. Here's what you'll need: 🔹 Head to the Go Center (Enter through the cafeteria area) 🔹 Bring your e-mail and phone number for the process 🔹 Please note: You can only create an FSA ID with a social security number at this time. Parents/guardians without a social security number will need to wait for the FAFSA official opening. Students without a social security number can apply for the TASFA, which opens alongside FAFSA. Jaylynn Luna, a junior at Mercedes Early College Academy and Varsity Tiger Cheerleader, showcased her talents with the SOSA (Spirit of San Antonio) Pom Squad during the University of Texas at San Antonio v. Rice University football game on Saturday, November 11 at the Alamodome. Jaylynn was proud to represent Mercedes among the 13 high schools from across Texas in attendance, and we're proud that she had the opportunity to participate in a college-level game day! This morning Mercedes ISD honored our district and community veterans with a breakfast organized by Mercedes Early College Academy administration, staff and students to thank them for their brave service and sacrifice. Their commitment to duty, both in the armed forces and within our school community, exemplifies the values of discipline, integrity, and selflessness. Unlocking their leadership potential! 🌟 RGV LEAD Student Ambassadors from Mercedes Early College Academy attended a Fall Leadership Workshop at South Texas College’s Pecan campus today. Students Berenice Cavazos and Andrea Trevino received certificates for their roles as Masters of Ceremonies during the Leadership Conference. 🎤👏 These Ambassadors not only honed their leadership skills but also networked and collaborated with peers from school districts across the Rio Grande Valley. Well done, Student Ambassadors! MISD was recently awarded a grant from the 'Living for Zachary' Foundation that provided three AED machines for our Tiger Athletic Training program. We are grateful that this grant will allow our athletic trainers to have the life-saving equipment to accompany their skills at every event. A special thank you to Lead Athletic Trainer Jaime Garcia for his dedicated efforts on behalf of the MISD family in securing the grant.✨ Tiger athletic trainers are always prepared by having CPR certifications and an AED onsite. Living for Zachary has impacted thousands of families and children across Texas through youth heart screenings, AED donations, CPR/AED certification classes, scholarships and awareness events.
